Part of an artist’s process is imperfection. We are not AI, we can not generate drawings and paintings with a prompt. We imagine, sketch, draw, paint, paint another layer, contemplate, try new things, let it dry, scan, perfect… it’s a process.
In these images imperfections can be seen: uneven strokes, dust (or my cat’s hair), my fingerprints, crackled paint… 
When I was 18, I was sitting on the street in Valladolid, drawing el Convento de San Pablo, in pencil. We had been there for 2-3 hours already and my nose started bleeding. A red drop fell onto my drawing and I was convinced that I had to discard my drawing and start a new one when our teacher came and told me that that drop of blood was a testimony, a part of the process. He didn’t care about it, neither would have he cared if it had started raining and the drawing paper was warped.
Don’t get me wrong, I love tech and I find AI interesting and useful (as long as everyone knows it has been ai-generated), and I’m all for AI-generated tools that can save us artists time. However, what AI can make is entirely different than what an artist can create.

Parte del proceso del artista es la imperfección. No somos AI (inteligencia artificial), no podemos crear dibujos y cuadros con solo unas frases. Imaginamos, bocetamos, dibujamos, pintamos, pintamos una capa más, reflexionamos, probamos nuevas cosas, lo dejamos secar, escaneamos, retocamos… es un proceso.
En estas imágenes se ven las imperfecciones: pinceladas diversas, polvo o los pelos de mi gato, mis huellas digitales, craqueados en la pintura…
Cuando tenía 18 años estaba sentada en la calle, en Valladolid, dibujando el Convento de San Pablo, a lápiz. Llevábamos allí 2 o tres horas cuando me empezó a sangrar la  nariz. Una gota roja cayó en mi dibujo y me convencí de que tendría que tirarlo y comenzar otro nuevo. Nuestro professor vino y me dijo que esa gota de sangre era un testimonio, una parte del process. No le preocupaba la gota de sangre, así como tampoco le hubiera importado si se hubiera puesto a llover y el papel de dibujo se hubiera ondulado.
Que no se me malentienda, me encanta la tecnología, encuentro el tema de la inteligencia artificial muy interesante y útil (con tal de que todo el mundo sea consciente de que algo se ha generado con AI) y estoy a la espera de herramientas que usen la inteligencia artificial para facilitarnos la vida a los artistas. Sin embargo, lo que la inteligencia artificial hace es completamente diferente de lo que crea un artista.
